School Responsibilities

STUDENT SUPERVISION - Student discipline is the primary responsibility of the school staff. It is an expectation that counselors and teachers will supervise their groups at all times whether during a class, open recreation or non-class times. Moran Outdoor School staff are provided to teach classes and provide evening activities.

CABIN LEADERSHIP - Schools must provide for adult supervision in every cabin. A good leader helps look after the physical and emotional safety of group members and sees that they get adequate sleep; both crucial to the success of a student's experience at Outdoor School. Most schools use parent volunteers.

INSURANCE - Moran Outdoor School does not provide health and accident insurance to guests. While there is a clinic on the island, there are no medical facilities at Camp Moran. Groups in attendance are responsible for medical treatment and liability insurance coverage of participants for injury, illness, and property damage.

SCHOOL NURSE - Schools will provide one person who will serve as medication and first-aid dispenser. It is recommended that each school brings a nurse, but, if that is not possible, it is requested that one person from the school have nurse duty.

LUGGAGE TRUCK AND/OR MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE - Since luggage is prohibited on school buses, a luggage truck must be provided by the school. The school will also provide a vehicle that can be used as a Medical Transportation Vehicle.

CLEAN-UP - Schools are expected to clean the housing, restroom facilities and surrounding outside areas they have been assigned to prior to departure. Supplies and guidance are made available to accomplish this.
