INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION

Moran Outdoor School provides residential environmental education. School groups come for one to five days and are usually 6th graders. Grades range from 2nd through High School. A typical week includes environmental education classes, backpacking to a campsite for a night, group building activities, and kayaking on Cascade Lake. We work to give students a better understanding of the natural world while providing them the opportunity to connect with the environment in lasting ways. Our Intern positions include training and supervisory support and will accommodate a wide variety of interests and academic majors.

Dates:

Spring Season: April through June 11th.
Fall Season: September and October.

Individual Duties:

  • Instruct groups of ten to fifteen 2nd-8th graders in Outdoor Environmental Education and Adventure Education Courses.
  • Supervise students during meal time duties.
  • Develop and document experiential curriculum for a course in area of interest.
  • Develop an interpretive display for the Environmental Learning Center.
  • Do other work as needed.

Cooperative Staff Duties:

  • Lead evening activities, elective classes, and arrival/departure activities.
  • Assist with camp operations and logistics, filling in where necessary to make the program run smoothly.
  • Assist with kitchen operations.
  • Attend staff meetings and a weekly check-in with Program Director.

Qualifications:

  • Experience and a sincere interest in working with children.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Interest in environmental issues.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Compensation: $20 per day, housing*, and meals when program is in session.

*Housing is provided rent-free; however, there is a $18.85/month charge for utilities.
