| Welcome | The Program Moran Outdoor School has worked to create a
program that strikes a balance between giving students a
better understanding of how the natural world works,
building a school's community, and providing students t Outdoor School Naturalists teach certain basic environmental concepts that students can take with them to any environment. Concepts like adaptations, interdependence, interrelationships, human impact, change and cycles are used as threads to tie together everything they do, while key terms like community, food web, biodiversity, habitat, and niche help create a common language for building an understanding of the natural world. "My students returned to classes this week better able to listen, to cooperate, and to care for one another." -Anne Kiemle, Teacher, Hillside Student Community [for rest of letter...] Outdoor School can also have a tremendous affect on individuals and the school's sense of community. Carrying a pack up a hill, exploring a forest, and kayaking for the first time can all help push students' comfort zones and increase their sense of confidence. Large group games, campfires, focused group building courses, and sharing a camp experience all help send schools home with a stronger sense of community.
